Wedding MCs

Help!

When my fiance and I went to book our reception hall, the gentleman asked us who our MC was going to be. We have only been to one wedding each in our lives and we were very young. I had no idea what he meant, but I didn't want to feel stupid so we said that we had not decided yet. I felt that I could ask around afterwards and find out what he meant. Well, I did and no one that I asked knew what being an MC entails. I have seen the mention in several magazines, but there were no explanations of what, exactly, the MC does.

Could you help me? Or maybe point me in some direction. I've been looking in various sites and have not found anything.

Thank you for your help.

No problem. The MC is the one who kind of "keeps the day flowing" by leading the guests through the special features of the wedding celebration.

Usual tasks include (in the generally accepted order here in CA):

  • Introducing family and bridal party
  • Introducing toasts
  • Inviting all to eat
  • Introducing the first dance
  • Introducing the parents dance
  • Introducing the bridal party dance
  • Inviting all to join in on dance floor
  • Introducing the cake cut
  • Introducing the boquet toss
  • Introducing the garter toss
  • Announcing the last dance

If you are having a band or DJ, usually the bandleader or DJ is adept at this task. If not, it could be neat to have a close friend or relative do it.

Good Luck!
